Cheryl Gould of Fully Engaged Libraries to speak at ALTAFF’s Specialized Outreach Services Luncheon at the ALA Annual Conference

PHILADELPHIA — The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), will host its Specialized Outreach Services Luncheon from noon-1:30 p.m. PDT on Saturday, June 23 at the Anaheim Marriott, Newport Beach and Rancho Las Palmas, at the 2012 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

Speakers will include Cheryl Gould of Fully Engaged Libraries, whose topic will be “What Does it Mean to Be a Community Anchor?” The second goal in the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) 2012-2016 strategic plan says “IMLS promotes museums and libraries as strong community anchors that enhance civic engagement, cultural opportunities, and economic vitality.” Do libraries know what it means to be a community anchor? If libraries think they’re already doing it, they may be missing opportunities. Gould will discuss one way the library can contribute to civic engagement and one of the models that needs to be broken in order to do it.

Cheryl Gould has been working with a grant project in California called Infopeople for 15 years. During that time she has taught hundreds of workshops. She has also worked as coach, mentor, editor and support for more than 200 different library subject matter experts, frontline staff and national consultants to create one-day trainings on more than 250 different library related topics delivered throughout California.

Advance tickets to ALTAFF’s Specialized Outreach Services Luncheon cost $55. Onsite tickets cost $60. Event code: ALT4. For more information on purchasing tickets or other ALTAFF events at the ALA Annual Conference, visit http://www.ala.org/altaff/events_conferences/annual.
