CALA sponsors Li and Kyauk as 2012 Emerging Leaders

CHICAGO - The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) has selected Yuan Li, scholarly communications librarian at Syracuse University Library, and Chris Kyauk, CALA Spectrum Scholar and intern at the Ethnic Studies Library at UC Berkeley, for the 2012 ALA Emerging Leaders program. As sponsor, CALA provides a stipend of $1,000 to support their attendance and participation in the Emerging Leaders program at the 2012 ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference.

“CALA is committed to promoting diverse leadership in librarianship and has been a proud sponsor of the ALA Emerging Leaders program every year,” said Min Chou, 2011-2012 president of CALA. “Many past CALA Emerging Leaders have actively taken a leadership role in serving and chairing several committees and task forces. I see the new vitality that has been brought to our profession by those young emerging leaders. My heartfelt congratulations go to Yuan and Chris. I am looking forward to their continuing contributions to CALA as well as to the library profession at a new level.”

The Emerging Leaders program enables librarians and library staff from across the country to participate in project planning workgroups; network with peers; gain an inside look into ALA structure; and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity early in their careers. Emerging Leaders receive up to $1,000 each to participate in the Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference, and each participant is expected to provide years of service to ALA or one of its units.
