Applications for ALTAFF’s Baker & Taylor Awards due May 1

PHILADELPHIA – The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is accepting applications for the Baker & Taylor Awards, given to Friends of the Library groups and library Foundations. Applications are due May 1, 2012.

Given annually since 2000, the Baker & Taylor Awards have recognized more than 40 groups for outstanding efforts to support their library. Each winning group receives $1,000, and will be recognized during the ALTAFF Gala Author Tea at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in June.

The awards will be given based on a specific project that took place or culminated during the 2011 calendar year or for outstanding activities by a Friends group or Foundation during 2011. An application can be made based on one specific program that was particularly successful, or on behalf of the group’s activities for the entire year. Applications are judged on planning, implementation, evaluation, innovation and community involvement.

Applicants must have an ALTAFF Friends or Foundation group membership valid through June 2012. Winners will be notified by May 15, 2012. Please contact ALTAFF to verify eligibility prior to preparing an entry. The application form is available at www.ala.org/altaff/grants_awards/friends/bakertaylor. Summaries of past award-winning projects can also be found on the website.
