Maria Guadalupe Partida Selected as the 2022 Christopher Hoy/ERT Scholarship Recipient

The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce the selection of Maria Guadalupe Partida of San Antonio, Texas as the 2022 Christopher Hoy/ERT Scholarship recipient.

The scholarship was named for a long-time ALA staff member who directed the ALA Conference Services Office for more than 20 years. This scholarship fund was established with donations from Christopher J. Hoy and the Exhibits Round Table (ERT) to honor his memory. The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to a person pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies.

Currently, Partida works as a student development manager at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.

Partida confides that while growing up, she was “nurtured in a close-knit community, empowered and unified by those with similar experiences.” This upbringing allowed her to “flee a cycle of poverty, pursue her passion, and engage with research institutions. It helped to form her identity and vocation: that of advocate for the Latinx community.” Her goal is to focus on librarianship and social justice informatics. She wants to “help innovate mediums of information and create digital content based on underrepresented voices in marginalized communities.”

Partida will be attending the University of Texas (Austin).
