ALA partners with NonProfit Vote for National Voter Registration Day
ALA urges libraries to register as partners
The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce that it has again joined with NonProfit Vote as a premier partner for National Voter Registration Day 2021. ALA encourages libraries to sign up to participate in this important event, culminating in a nation-wide day of action on September 28, 2021.
Many libraries partner with local election agencies and community-based organizations to disseminate information, host events, and promote informed participation in the democratic process. With changes to voting laws in more than 40 states, and new restrictions in nearly one-third of states, the call to action for libraries is clear.
Library workers and advocates can find resources on voter engagement at ala.org/advocacy/voter-engagement or follow #LibrariesEngageVoters on social media. In addition, ALA has released a tip sheet for community leaders about libraries and voter engagement. Library staff can share the tip sheet with their local officials and decisionmakers to help them understand how they can partner with libraries.
In 2020, more than 500 libraries joined ALA and participated in National Voter Registration Day, registering thousands of voters across the country.
