ALA, libraries nationwide celebrate National Voter Registration Day

WASHINGTON -- The American Library Association (ALA) is recognizing September 22, 2020, as National Voter Registration Day, a nonpartisan civic holiday dedicated to promoting voter registration and voter readiness. ALA is a Premier Partner of National Voter Registration Day, and nearly 500 libraries nationwide have signed up to participate in the event through ALA.

“Libraries of all types are trusted hubs for civic engagement, and on National Voter Registration Day, ALA celebrates the many ways libraries engage voters in their communities,” said ALA President Julius C. Jefferson, Jr. “We also urge every library worker, volunteer and supporter to confirm that they are registered to vote.”

Libraries across the country assist voters through activities such as providing access to voter registration, informing voters about deadlines and options for voting, serving as polling places or ballot drop-off locations, and delivering civic education programs.
