Subramaniam awarded 2020 YALSA Outstanding Achievement Award

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has awarded the 2020 Outstanding Achievement Award to Mega Subramaniam.

Subramaniam is an Associate Professor at the College of Information Studies (iSchool) at the University of Maryland.

"It is truly an honor to be recognized as the 2020 recipient of YALSA's Service to Young Adults Outstanding Achievement Award,” said Subramaniam. “I have dedicated my career to challenge the preconceived mindset and approach to library services and programs to young adults, with the goal of demonstrating the powerful roles that libraries can play in informal and formal learning. I am incredibly grateful to the library staff, young adults, and academic colleagues that have collaborated with me - translating emerging research findings to innovative youth librarianship practices."

Subramaniam will receive $2,000 as recognition for her significant, unique and sustained devotion to young adult services through her work.

Applications for the Outstanding Achievement Award are accepted every odd year and is awarded every even year. The award is generously sponsored by longtime YALSA member Marney Welmers. Learn more.
