ALA’s Response to Question About Disinformation in Libraries
CHICAGO – The American Library Association (ALA) released the following response to questions raised following a session at ALA’s Annual Conference & Exhibition.
Holocaust denial is disinformation and the American Library Association unequivocally opposes the use of disinformation, media manipulation, and other tactics that undermine access to accurate information. Because the ALA Annual Conference serves as an open forum, opinions expressed by program participants do not necessarily reflect, or imply advocacy or endorsement by ALA, its officers, or members. We were not previously aware of prior statements by program participants regarding Holocaust denial disinformation. We apologize for not addressing these concerns immediately during the Unite Against Book Bans program and making ALA’s position clear.
For more information, please see ALA Council's Resolution on Access to Accurate Information (adopted 2005, revised 2017).
