AASL Standards now crosswalked to Code with Google’s CS First Curriculum
CHICAGO – As part of its continued commitment to provide school library professionals the materials and resources needed to implement its “National School Library Standards,” the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has released a crosswalk aligning the AASL Standards to the Code with Google’s CS First Curriculum. The crosswalk and accompanying statement of alignment are downloadable, and the printable PDFs are available on the AASL Standards Portal.
"Early on in the process, we recognized that the AASL Standards and the Code with Google’s CS First Curriculum were a natural fit," said Cynthia Zervos, task force chair. "Computer science and coding are an important part of the school library curriculum, and we wanted school librarians to see how easily the CS First Curriculum fits into their teaching. Google really makes it easy for school librarians to get started or take what they are already doing to the next level. We hope that many find this crosswalk helpful!"
"Crosswalks are a powerful tool for identifying common interests among disciplines," said AASL President Mary Keeling. "The new crosswalk between AASL’s 'National School Library Standards' and Code with Google’s CS First Curriculum demonstrates how easily the CS First Curriculum supports the priorities of school librarians who prepare learners to problem-solve with creativity and flair. I want to thank Cindy Zervos and her team for this important work; their crosswalk shows just how much fun we can have in our school libraries!"
AASL also plans to create professional learning resources to assist practitioners in developing their own local crosswalks as needed to supplement the crosswalks published by the association.
