Slow summer learning with the AASL Standards

CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is easing into summer learning with an online book discussion of its newly released “National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries.” Termed a slow chat, the discussion will take place via Twitter. School library professionals with Twitter accounts can follow the hashtags #AASLstandards and #AASLowchat to participate.

The #AASLowchat will be hosted by the AASL Standards Implementation Committee and moderated by committee member Amanda Kozaka (@BoomShakaKozaka). A new question will be shared Tuesday evenings for eight weeks and the chat will last through August 21, 2018. Those participating in all eight weeks of the discussion can request a letter from AASL to place in their professional portfolio.

“The pace of summer makes it a perfect time to read, reflect and explore ideas,” said Kozaka. “Why not spend some time getting to know the AASL Standards better, too? Each week we’ll share a question to pique your curiosity and encourage collaborative discussions. A copy of the Standards book or mobile app are not required – though we highly recommend them! – to engage in this learning experience.”
