The ALA joins the list of #GivingTuesday organizations
CHICAGO — Support the future of our nation’s libraries and donate to the ALA and its divisions on #GivingTuesday, Nov.29. #GivingTuesday is a social media driven day of giving held in conjunction with the beginning of the holiday season and end-of-year giving.
Society is at a critical juncture with regard to the changing information landscape and the skills needed to thrive in our digital world. The ALA and its divisions play an essential role in the professional development of expert librarians and library workers in all types of libraries. The association works to provide best practices that empower library staff to transform our nation’s communities through education and lifelong learning.
“Libraries and library professionals are indispensable community resources, experts connecting people with the information and services they need,” said ALA President Julie Todaro. “The ALA provides support from the experts in library leadership, and Giving Tuesday gifts will help ensure that we remain a valuable and viable resource for libraries as they continue to transform.”
The ALA will launch the year-end giving campaign on social media beginning Nov.1, urging donors to participate in #GivingTuesday and to encourage donations prior to the end of the year. Donors may visit ala.org/donate to designate their gift to benefit ALA divisions, offices, roundtables or programs of their choice.
Gifts of any size are welcome at ala.org/donate and will aid a wide range of association activities that support libraries and librarianship, advocacy efforts to support school libraries, intellectual freedom and youth literacy; our efforts to bridge the digital divide; and scholarship funds to assist the next generation of library professionals.
By giving to the ALA, donors are transforming lives through education and lifelong learning, as well as helping to advance information services and the profession of librarianship.
