Angela Glowcheski named recipient of the 2016-2017 Pat Carterette Professional Development Grant

The Learning Round Table (LearnRT) of the American Library Association is pleased to announce Angela Glowcheski, Public Services Director at the Sequoyah Regional Library System in Canton, Georgia as the recipient of the 2016-2017 Pat Carterette Professional Development Grant.

Glowcheski will receive a $1,000 grant to attend the 2017 Annual Conference of the American Library Association in Chicago in support of her professional goals, which include the development of a staff training program at her library system. As part of the awards process this year, recipients are also assigned a “learning mentor” to assist with any questions or concerns related to professional development. Julia Huprich, incoming vice-president of the LearnRT and Director of Training and Continuing Education at the Georgia Public Library Service, will serve as Glowcheski’s mentor.

“I’m so pleased that Angela was chosen as the Pat Carterette Grant recipient,” Huprich says. “She has such a passion for training and development, and her enthusiasm and positive energy are so inspiring. I know she’ll do wonderful things with this opportunity, and I can’t wait to see how her training program continues to develop.”

This grant, established in memory of LearnRT past-president Pat Carterette, is designed to honor her passion for professional development in the field of library and information sciences. A former staff development coordinator at the Cleveland Heights - University Heights Public Library and the first Continuing Education Coordinator for the State Library of Georgia, Pat's legacy focused on providing outstanding educational opportunities for her colleagues to grow and develop within their career field. Funding for this grant comes from gifts and donations made in Pat's honor and through the proceeds from LearnRT preconference events and sponsorship of the LearnRT Training Showcase.

Applications for the 2017- 2018 grant will be due March 1, 2017, and the application process will open in early 2017. For more information on the award or the Learning Round Table, please visit our website.
