United for Libraries to present ‘Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations’ at Annual Conference
BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania — United for Libraries will present “Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations” from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at the Hilton Orlando, Lake Eola, during the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando.
Keynote speakers for the free “Nuts & Bolts” program will be nonprofit consultant Hardy Smith and bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe. Roundtable discussions will cover such topics as revitalizing a friends of the library group, fundraising, board planning, marketing and library foundation policies. Friends of the library group members, library trustees, library foundation board and staff and other library staff and volunteers are all welcome to attend.
Hardy Smith is a consultant and speaker who works with nonprofits and associations. His approach is based on a career of more than 30 years in the world of NASCAR racing. He also has a decade of senior leadership experience in local government. Smith’s understanding of the needs of nonprofits and associations comes from extensive professional and personal involvement with nonprofits, volunteer based organizations and community groups nationwide. He has held numerous local, state and national volunteer leadership positions. He has certifications in nonprofit management, volunteer administration and personality assessment.
New York Times bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe’s novel “The Beach House” will be adapted into a Hallmark Channel Original Movie, starring three-time Golden Globe nominee Andie MacDowell and premiering on the network in 2016. She is an active conservationist and serves on the board of the South Carolina Aquarium, the Leatherback Trust and Charleston Literacy Volunteers. She is a frequent speaker at book festivals and conferences. Monroe will be joined by Kathie Bennett, author advocate and founder of Magic Time Literary Agency.
