Andromeda Yelton Elected 2017-18 LITA President
Andromeda Yelton, owner/consultant of Small Beautiful Useful LLC, has been elected as the 2017-2018 president of the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA). Yelton will serve as vice-president/president-elect during 2016-17 and will assume the presidency in June 2017.
"LITA has helped me meet amazing people, develop skills, and find opportunities. Now, as it heads toward its 50th anniversary, we have a remarkable chance to define what it means to serve the library technology profession over the next 50 years. I'm excited and honored to help lead LITA through this milestone," Yelton said.
Yelton has served as a member-at-large on the LITA Board of Directors since 2013. She is a member of the 2011 class of ALA Emerging Leaders and won the LITA/Ex Libris Student Writing Award in 2010. She was a founding member of Unglue.it, a crowdfunding initiative to support authors, publishers, or other rights holders who want to make their ebooks free. She speaks and writes about coding and learning to code, gender in library technology, conference codes of conduct, ebooks, copyright, technology, and personal branding. "The common theme is connecting people and information in new ways. I try to document them and share the code so you can build on them, too," Yelton notes on her website.
LITA members also elected Topher Lawton and Evviva Weinraub as new Board members-at-large. Both will start their term on July 1, 2016, and will serve through June 2018. Aaron Dobbs was re-elected as LITA Councilor and will serve a second three-year term, starting on July 1, 2016.
We thank all the candidates who stood for election as well as all the members who voted. Their efforts will help LITA thrive and grow as we enter our 50th anniversary celebration year.
