Webinar! "Dear Representative" in time for NLLD
Oftentimes, librarians associate National Library Legislative Day (NLLD) with the singular issue of funding and budget support. But there are many issues that librarians can advocate for to their elected officials.
- Privacy. Maybe you'd want to talk to your representative about publicly supporting "Choose Privacy Week"?
- School Librarians. Maybe you want to share statistics with your representative about the number of book challenges that occur in school libraries and how important it is to have a professional librarian there to advocate for the the freedom to read for the next voting generation?
- Filtering. Maybe you want to express your concern with filtering mandates that require libraries to use third party software to restrict access to constitutionally protected speech?
Navigating government offices and officials can be complicated and incredibly overwhelming. But it is important.
Webinar
The Office for Intellectual Freedom is hosting a webinar before NLLD to show librarians what to expect in Washington and if you can't attend in person, what to expect virtually. The webinar will show librarians what it's like to call a representative's office and tips on writing emails. And most of all, our speakers will share true success stories. Librarians have powerful voices and we can make a difference.
