Bonnie Parks recipient of Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) congratulates the recipient of the 2016 Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award, Bonnie Parks. Presented by the Continuing Resources Section (CRS) of ALCTS, this award consists of a citation and $1,500 donated by ProQuest and is given for distinguished contributions to serials librarianship. The award will be presented at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony on June 25 during the 2016 American Library Association Annual Conference and Exposition in Orlando.

Parks, collections technology librarian at the University of Portland, has been described as a model for the profession, balancing research, publication and engagement within professional organizations, with teaching and mentoring to help move the profession forward. For ten years she has been instrumental in providing continuing education for the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP), sharing her knowledge of serials cataloging with hundreds of catalogers in single and multi-day workshops. As an adjunct instructor for the University of Arizona, School of Information, she has taught and mentored library school students for seven years.

Parks’ scholarship contributions are significant and include two book chapters, publications, presentations, and editorship of the Serials Conversations column in “Serials Review” for nine years. She has been an invited presenter at conferences and a leader of numerous workshops. Her deep history of professional service includes leadership positions and active participation in organizations such as North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) and the American Library Association’s Association for Libraries Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) Continuing Resources Section, for which she is currently chairing the Standards Committee. She is a recognized leader in the Orbis Cascade Alliance where she has contributed expertise with serials cataloging.

The ALCTS Continuing Resources Section is pleased to recognize the significant accomplishments and contributions of Parks, whose work has made a profound impact on serials librarianship, as well as current and future library professionals.

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats.
