Preparing for Today’s Job Market: the Search, the Application, and the Interview session to be presented during ALA’s 2016 Midwinter Meeting in Boston
A session entitled Preparing for Today’s Job Market: the Search, the Application, and the Interview will be presented on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Boston (#alamw16). The session will be hosted by and held in the ALA JobLIST Placement and Career Development Center.
The number one goal for many of us, whether we are fresh out of library school or not, is finding a job. And not just any job -- a job that we like, a job that we can grow in and learn from and feel proud of, a job that will enhance our skill sets and propel our careers. But the process of finding a job can be a difficult one and, at times, a long and treacherous journey. This hands-on workshop will help you feel more confident in your job search by giving you the tools to organize a search, analyze job listings, write effective, compelling cover letters and resumes, and professionalize your interview game. All of which will help get you noticed -- in a good way.
The presenter, Susanne Markgren, is the Digital Services Librarian at Purchase College, State University of New York. She has worked in libraries for twenty years, has written articles, book reviews, and chapters for a variety of publications and has co-authored the “Career Q&A with the Library Career People” advice column since 2003. Her book, co-authored with Tiffany Eatman Allen, came out in 2013 and is titled, Career Q&A: A Librarian’s Real-Life, Practical Guide to Managing a Successful Career. She received her MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin, and her MFA in creative writing from Manhattanville College.
