Join ALA for the Giving Tuesday Effort on Dec. 1

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) Scholarship Program has again joined #GivingTuesday, a first-of-its-kind effort that will harness the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Taking place Dec. 1, 2015 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – GivingTuesday provides a collective opportunity for people to give to the causes they believe in and support.

Coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday inspires and encourages people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.

The American Library Association's Scholarship Program joined the national #GivingTuesday movement in order to promote the idea of spending with a purpose for scholarships. The ALA believes its members have a collective giving nature. It joined the movement to give ALA members an opportunity to play a significant role in this global effort. The ALA hopes members will be encouraged to give back to the profession by donating to the ALA Scholarship fund.

Those who are interested in joining the ALA’s #GivingTuesday initiative can visit ALA’s donor page.
