Management of Technology course starting soon
CHICAGO — The ALA Office for Human Resource Development and Recruitment (HRDR) is offering a six-week Management of Technology course. The online asynchronous sessions will be available on sequential Mondays from Oct. 19 – Nov. 23, 2015. The cost of the course is $300. REGISTER now, as the class will be starting soon.
This course puts the full power of information technology into the hands of library managers and leaders. Class participants will begin by gaining a clear vision and understanding of technology policy. Next, we consider the nuts and bolts of managing technology. Technology planning is then followed by technology implementation and ends with evaluation. The course is presented in plain language, with concrete examples and hands-on exercises.
The course instructor, Carson Block, has led, managed and supported library technology efforts for more than 20 years. He brings a user-centered technological perspective to projects, with an emphasis on solutions that are both transparent and powerful— with some “gee whiz” thrown into the mix. As a technology consultant, Carson has worked with public, school, academic and special libraries of all sizes. He has worked with regional library systems as well as a state library on a wide variety of efforts ranging from direct technology support to large-scale projects. Carson Block has been called “a geek who speaks English.”
