Reinventing the library for online education

CHICAGO — ALA TechSource announces an exciting new workshop, Reinventing the Library for Online Education with Frederick Stielow. This workshop will last 90 minutes and take place at 2:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015.

Drawing from previous classroom and research information services models, Frederick Stielow will discuss the vital skills and implementation approaches that will help persuade your faculty and administrators to get on board with bringing your library into the online classroom.

Stielow pioneered the development of the Online Library of the American Public University System (APUS), which has served 100,000 students in 120 countries, resulting in a 3,000 percent increase in library visits. APUS was among the top ten research databases chosen by users.
In this workshop, Stielow will provide you with guidelines and advice from his own experiences to help get your library on track to support and be integrated in online education. This evidence-based call to action will cover such topics as:
  • developing curriculum-wide course guides;
  • prioritizing librarian-enabled service and community-building skills over collections;
  • presenting the library’s value and how it can save students money on educational resources;
  • developing a Web-conscious awareness for new tools and open Web resources;
  • navigating the sensitivities, politics and bureaucracy of an academic environment.
