Dobbins selected as the 2014 Tony B. Leisner Scholarship recipient
CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) has selected Elizabeth June-Heline Dobbins of Fuquay Varina, N.C., as the recipient of the 2014 Tony B. Leisner Scholarship.
The $3,000 scholarship, named for an active ALA member and former member of the ALA Council, is awarded to a library support staff member pursuing a master’s degree in library and information studies. The scholarship was established with funds donated by Leisner.
After receiving her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Religious Studies as an honors fellow, Dobbins wanted the opportunity to explore librarianship as a profession. She began working as a circulation manager in an academic library and “became passionate about the field.” Dobbins says she is “immensely attracted to the inherent interdisciplinarity of librarianship.” She hopes to become a research and instruction librarian in an academic institution.
Dobbins will attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
