Joyce Saricks joins Booklist as audio editor

CHICAGO - The library profession’s well-known readers' and listeners’ advisor, Joyce Saricks, joins Booklist as audio editor on Sept. 3, 2013, taking over from Sue-Ellen Beauregard, who retired August 29.

Saricks is familiar to Booklist readers from her popular “At Leisure with Joyce Saricks” column and from her work for the audio section as reviewer, interviewer of the annual Voice of Choice selection and writer of numerous Listen-alikes features. She plans to continue with these in addition to her expanded role. Saricks has won many awards in recognition of her groundbreaking work and expertise, including RUSA’s 2011 Margaret Monroe Award for a significant contribution to library adult services, PLA’s Allie Beth Martin Award and the Librarian of the Year Award from the Romance Writers of America.

Saricks previously ran the Readers' Advisory department at the Downers Grove (Ill.) Public Library and has served as an adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Dominican University. She describes herself as “addicted to audiobooks; when I’m not reading a book, I’m listening to one.” She has published two titles with ALA, “The Readers' Advisory Guide to Genre Fiction (2009) and “Readers Advisory in the Public Library” (2005). She is also the author of, “Read On ... Audiobooks: Reading Lists for Every Taste,” which offers original annotations for more than 300 audiobook titles grouped according to some 60 themes, fiction and nonfiction.

Beauregard worked for Booklist for more than 30 years in a variety of roles and was responsible for initiating and building audio coverage in the magazine and more recently online, including as founding editor of the e-newsletter “Booklist Online Video Review.” Known for her role in raising the awareness, acceptance, and popularity of audiobooks, she helped get the Odyssey Award off the ground as consultant to the committee, and has been an Audies judge for the Audio Publishers Association. Beauregard will continue reviewing audiobooks for Booklist and will remain editor of “Video Review.”
