The AASL13 conference daily – “Your Name Here”

CHICAGO – A new contest launched by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) will rename the AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition onsite daily newspaper. Formerly known as the AASL Advocate, AASL members and national conference attendees are invited to submit names and vote online for their favorite submission. The winning name will be revealed with the release of the electronic preview edition of the paper on Oct. 14, 2013. The person submitting the winning entry will receive a prize of their choice of one AASL publication. To participate, visit

Submissions for the contest will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013. Creativity is encouraged! On Monday, Sept. 23, three vetted “staff favorites” will be announced and the online voting period will begin. Votes will be accepted until the 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. The winning entry will be revealed when the electronic preview edition of the newspaper is emailed to AASL members and conference attendees on Monday, Oct. 14.

The AASL national conference is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. The 16th National Conference & Exhibition, "Rising to the Challenge," taking place Nov. 14–17, 2013, in Hartford, Conn., will feature preconference workshops, concurrent sessions and an exhibition featuring companies relevant to the school library profession.

The American Association of School Librarians,, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), promotes the improvement and extension of library services in elementary and secondary schools as a means of strengthening the total education program. Its mission is to advocate excellence, facilitate change and develop leaders in the school library field.
