PLA 2014 ConverStation proposal period ends Friday, Aug. 16

CHICAGO — The deadline to submit a ConverStation proposal for the Public Library Association (PLA) 2014 Conference is fast approaching. All proposals must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. Central time on Aug. 16, 2013.

ConverStations at PLA Conference are unique, interactive sessions that enable attendees to discuss a public library issue/topic and learn from each other. Session facilitators typically introduce a topic for five to 10 minutes, then moderate attendee discussion. ConverStations are 60 or 75 minutes in length and are set up in rooms with round tables of 10 to encourage discussion among attendees.

As with preconference and program proposals, we recommend ConverStation proposals showcase emerging trends, innovations and examples of risk-taking in the areas of community engagement, managing space, marketing and advocacy, digital content, technology, programming, leadership, funding, staffing, collections, outcome measures and more. Find the proposal form online. The PLA 2014 Conference Program Subcommittee, chaired by Georgia Lomax, deputy director, Pierce County (Wash.) Library System, will review all submitted proposals and select ConverStations based on their relevance to the profession and general interest to conference attendees.

The PLA 2014 Conference is March 11-15 in Indianapolis. Offered biennially, the conference has a reputation for excellence. It includes more than 100 top-quality continuing education programs and ConverStations, several social events and networking opportunities and a bustling exhibits hall. Full registration opens Sept. 4, 2013.

PLA is a division of the American Library Association. PLA’s core purpose is to strengthen public libraries and their contribution to the communities they serve, and its mission is to enhance the development and effectiveness of public library staff and public library services.
