Planning and preparing for RDA
CHICAGO - By popular demand, ALA Editions announces a new session of the facilitated eCourse Planning and Preparing for RDA. Magda El-Sherbini will serve as instructor for a four-week facilitated eCourse starting on Aug. 5, 2013.
There are already many catalog records “in the wild” that are compliant with RDA: Resource Description and Access. Now is the perfect time for anyone involved in cataloging and technical services to prepare and put plans in place for implementing RDA. An active participant in development of the RDA instructions, Magda El-Sherbini will lead this four-week, asynchronous eCourse to help you get started.
Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the conceptual difference between AACR2 and RDA;
- Craft cataloging policies and procedures;
- Create a staff training plan;
- Draft an RDA implementation plan;
- Craft strategies for communicating about RDA throughout the library.
Magda El-Sherbini is head of The Ohio State University Libraries' Cataloging Department. In this capacity, she oversees the Department’s cataloging activities. She supervises the department's four cataloging units as well as four faculty members and their respective staffs. In addition to her administrative duties, El-Sherbini serves on numerous library committees and is the author of numerous library publications. She served as a member of the ALA RDA Advisory Board, which addresses issues related to the online publishing of RDA, tests the product online and provides feedback to the publisher.
Registration for this ALA Editions facilitated eCourse, which begins on Aug. 5, 2013, can be purchased at the ALA Store. Participants in this course will need regular access to a computer with an internet connection for online message board participation, viewing online video, listening to streaming audio (MP3 files) and downloading and viewing PDF and PowerPoint files.
