United for Libraries to present ‘Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations’ at ALA Annual Conference
PHILADELPHIA – United for Libraries will present “Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT on Friday, June 28 in McCormick Place S501bc at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.
The Nuts & Bolts program will feature speakers addressing topics of interest to Friends, Trustees and advocates, including the fiduciary responsibilities of boards. The program will be led by Dora U. Sims, trustee at Birmingham (Ala.) Public Library and Trustee-at-Large, United for Libraries, and Shirley A. Bruursema, trustee at Kent (Mich.) District Library.
Speakers will include Delores Lynch, trustee at Shreve Memorial Library (Shreveport, La.); Ruth Newell, trustee at Fountaindale (Ill.) Public Library District; Marsha Bennett, community relations manager and liaison to the friends of library at Johnson County (Kan.) Library; Charles Hanson, director of library services at Kettering University (Flint, Mich.); Jeff Smith, director of public affairs for Humanim and president of the Foundation for Baltimore County (Md.) Public Library and Donna McDonald, director of the Arkansas River Valley Regional Library (Darndanelle, Ark.).
Roundtable discussions will be held on innovative library programming; lobbying, advocacy and library budgets; policies and procedures; hiring and evaluating the library director; budgets for friends/foundations and online booksales.
