Learn how to engage young adults at ‘Teens on Boards, Oh Yes!’, presented by United for Libraries
PHILADELPHIA – United for Libraries will present “Teens on Boards, Oh Yes! Library Boards, Friends Boards, and Engaging Teens” from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. CDT on Monday, July 1 at McCormick Place N427d at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.
A panel of speakers will share their experiences and tips for engaging teens on library Boards of Trustees and the boards of Friends groups.
High School Liaison Librarian Anna Pederson and Executive Director Stephanie Sarnoff of Schaumburg (Ill.) Township District Library will speak about the selection process for the library’s Student Advisor Trustees and their participation on the library board, as well as the critical role they played in the design of the library’s Teen Place. Student Advisor Trustees Isha Jog and Matt Mussman will discuss their experiences.
Megan Buttera, teen librarian/assistant manager at the Palatine (Ill.) Public Library, along with teen representative Payal Mallik, will discuss how Payal was the first teen representative appointed through the Teen Advisory Board to serve a one-year term on the library board.
