HRDR Office celebrates 40 years
CHICAGO — The ALA Office for Human Resource Development and Recruitment (HRDR—previously known as the Office for Library Personnel Resources (OLPR)) will celebrate its 40th anniversary from noon - 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013 in the ALA JobLIST Placement Center, located in the south building, level 3, Hall A1 on Exhibits floor of the Convention Center.
Established in 1973, the Office for Library Personnel Resources (OLPR) combined ALA staff activities in library education, recruitment and staff welfare to assist librarians and libraries in areas concerned with the rights, interests and obligations of library personnel. The Office functioned as a major component within ALA to support areas of librarianship as a profession. This included individuals’ career goals and the provision within library schools and libraries of policies and practices that enable staff to develop professionally. In 1998, in order to keep pace more adequately with changes occurring in the field of training and development, the name of the Office was changed to the Office for Human Resource Development and Recruitment.
Over the past 40 years, the office has played a vital role in the areas of education, staff development and human resource management for the organization and its members. Today, the office manages: the JobLIST Placement Center; ALA Scholarship Clearinghouse; Emerging Leaders Program; ALA Internship Program and the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Program. It also serves as liaison to: the Learning Round Table (Learn RT); the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT); the Library Support Staff Interests Round Table (LSSIRT); the New Members Round Table (NMRT); the Staff Organizations Round Table (SORT); the ALA Committee on Education (COE); the ALA Committee on the Status of Women in Librarianship (COSWL); the ALA Scholarships and Study Grants Committee (SSGC) and the ALA Training, Orientation & Leadership Development Committee (TOLD).
All are welcome to join us as we celebrate this milestone.
