AASL seeks nominees for the NCATE Board of Examiners
CHICAGO - The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) seeks two individuals to recommend for service on the Board of Examiners (BOE) of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE is an agency authorized by the federal government to accredit units within colleges and universities that prepare classroom teachers and other pre K-12 school personnel. Full information on the requirements and responsibilities can be found on the NCATE website.
NCATE accreditation signals that an institution has met or exceeded professional standards of quality, created by the teaching profession and for the benefit of the nation's schoolchildren. Nominees must have demonstrated expertise in the field of professional education, skill in the use of evaluation techniques, good writing skills, ability to make impartial professional judgments and good interpersonal skills. This appointment is time intensive and support from nominee's employer is critical for the three year term.
Those chosen by AASL will begin service on June 1, 2013. Newly nominated members will be asked to attend one of two training sessions scheduled for July 2013, either July 21-24 or July 28-31. Service on the BOE is contingent upon successful completion of training.
