PLA offers sessions with a public library focus at the ALA Midwinter Meeting
CHICAGO – At the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, the Public Library Association (PLA) will be hosting several meeting and updates valuable for public library professionals. Some of the highlights include:
PLA Association Update—10:30-11:30 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, Washington Convention Center, Room 604: PLA is part of two innovative initiatives for public libraries – DigitalLearn.org (formerly the Digital Learning Center) and Edge, an initiative to create public access technology benchmarks for the library field. Join PLA to hear how these programs can have a powerful impact on the work of public libraries to provide digital literacy education and Internet/technology access to communities. Discussion and feedback will be welcome.
PLAmetrics User Demo—10:30-11:30 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, Red Lion Hotel, Emerald II: A must for data-driven public librarians. See firsthand PLAmetrics, the digital database that allows subscribers to access and customize nine years of public library data collected through the PLDS Statistical Report and IMLS surveys. The demo will offer information on accessing data and building custom reports.
PL Online Information Session—1 - 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, Washington Convention Center, Networking Uncommons: Current and prospective Public Libraries Online contributors are invited to join PLA for this informal discussion. Staff will answer questions and discuss next steps in the evolution of PL Online and look for feedback on upcoming public library trends.
