CHICAGO – In a new Knowledge Quest webinar hosted by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), writer Katie Monnin will guide attendees through aligning graphic novels to various national standards, including the AASL learning standards and the Common Core State Standards. “Aligning Graphic Novels to the Standards” will take place at 6 p.m. central time on Feb. 12, 2013. In her related January/February Knowledge Quest feature, “Aligning Graphic Novels to the Common Core Standards,” Monnin writes, “Pairing the study of traditional text-only books with graphic novels can support our efforts to engage every student and to help all students learn and grow.” To do this, Monin will demonstrate during the webinar how graphic novels align to the AASL learning standards, the Common Core State Standards and the National Council of Teachers of English/International Reading Association standards. Monnin will also tie graphic novels to contemporary reading and writing literacy realities students face in today’s diverse literary world.
The webinar is open to AASL members and subscribers of eCOLLAB, AASL’s professional development repository. Registrations will be accepted until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, and a seat in the webinar is guaranteed to the first 100 attendees. To register, visit www.ala.org/aasl/ecollab/upcoming.
