ALSC offers student session on mentoring Aug. 14

CHICAGO — On Tuesday, at 5 p.m. CDT on Aug. 14, the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) will offer a free online workshop for all students and early career professionals interested in children’s services. Emerging as a Leader: How ALSC Helped Us Become the Future is presented by three members of ALSC’s 2012 Emerging Leader project team. Debbie Zimmerman, Kim Castle-Alberts and Maria Pontillas were members of the 2012 ALA Emerging Leaders Team E that developed recommendations for an ALSC mentoring program.

Have you ever wanted to get your foot in the door of ALA but weren't quite sure how to go about it? Are you fairly new to the profession? Join Team E of the Emerging Leaders Class of 2012 as it discusses the benefits and the experience that go along with being a part of the Emerging Leaders program. They will also talk about their final project, which was to make recommendations for creating a mentoring program through ALSC.

ALSC Student Sessions are online workshops that last about an hour and are led by ALSC members from across the country. These sessions are run through Adobe Connect. Participants only need a computer with Internet access and speakers. Take advantage of this opportunity to network with other students and ALSC members without leaving the comfort of your home.

Hosted by the ALSC Membership Committee, these student sessions are open to all students, ALSC members and non-members. They are being offered free of charge.
