This authoritative guide—with a core focus on reading readiness and helping position children to succeed in school—has already been featured in Baby & Toddler and Home Education Magazine. It offers more than 300 age-appropriate and subject-specific book selections from librarians for reading time with children. From board and picture books to hot new books, these recommendations reflect family, community, play and the environment. Mirroring a child's world as they grow and mature, chapters include segments on reading together, friendship, places near and far and making believe. These titles have been culled from the association's “best” lists and professional review journals.

Aimed squarely at the entrepreneur who knows little about mobile applications but is eager to know more, this primer explains in simple language this fast-growing segment of the world economy. The burgeoning smartphone and tablet market presents opportunities and new income streams for enterprising business managers. Avoiding jargon and technical language, the basics of mobile Web applications are explained, and practical advice about using open-access development tools such as PhoneGap are discussed. A sample app is developed through the course of the book, providing a handy model for the reader. Even rookie developers with no programming experience will be able to create effective mobile applications using this easy-to-digest introduction to a thriving billion-dollar industry.

The essentials for building a successful business from the ground up are clearly delineated in this primer for would-be entrepreneurs. Whether starting from scratch, buying an existing business or becoming a franchisee, anyone dreaming of becoming their own boss needs to understand the fundamentals of business management addressed here. Choosing the right business, creating a business plan, analyzing finances, starting part-time and hiring staff are just some of the topics covered in this thorough guide. Business readiness is evaluated in a “reality check” that assesses the motivation and intent of someone starting a new enterprise, and the pitfalls that cause 80 percent of new ventures to fail within five years are frankly addressed. Filled with strategies for managing risk and successfully executing a business plan, this book will help make the goal of independent ownership a reality.
