Shannon Peterson elected 2013-2014 YALSA president
CHICAGO — Members of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected Shannon Peterson as the association’s next president-elect. She will begin her term as president-elect in June 2012, becoming president for one year in June 2013.
Peterson, youth services librarian at the Kitsap Regional Library in Port Orchard, Wash., currently sits on YALSA’s Board of Directors. She previously chaired the Division and Membership Promotion committee and served on the 2009 Outstanding Books for the College Bound and Lifelong Learners selection committee.
“YALSA has provided so much to me in the past years, I'm truly honored to continue to give back and to support our phenomenal members,” Peterson said. “I am passionate about helping YALSA continue to do the dynamic work that it already does, while also working to ensure future growth. I look forward to investigating how we can connect to other youth-serving organizations, engaging members at regional levels and ensuring that teen library services continue to grow and thrive in every library in the country.”
In addition, YALSA elected Vicki Emery as its ALA councilor and Sarah Sogigian and Candice A. Wing-Yee Mack as members of the board of directors. The full list of YALSA election results, including selection committees, are available at http://www.ala.org/yalsa/workingwithyalsa/election#slate.
