Parrilli wins ALTAFF/Gale Outstanding Trustee Conference Grant
PHILADELPHIA — The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has awarded the 2012 ALTAFF/Gale Outstanding Trustee Conference Grant to Karen Parrilli, a member of the Board of Trustees at Skokie (Ill.) Public Library. Parrilli will receive $850 plus full conference registration to attend the 2012 ALA Annual Conference June 21-26 in Anaheim, Calif. A formal presentation to Parilli will be made at the conference.
Parrilli took a position on the Skokie Public Library Board of Trustees in July 2009 and was elected to a six-year term in April 2011. She serves as the board’s representative to the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS). RAILS serves library members in the northern and central part of Illinois (public, school and business libraries). Parrilli is a member of the Illinois Library Association, ALA, the Public Library Association and ALTAFF.
“Board members have an obligation to continue their educational growth with the most current information provided by professional organizations to serve the community, library, staff and patrons,” says Parrilli. “Attending the ALA Annual Conference in June will be a worthwhile opportunity to expand my knowledge vital to the ever-changing information needs of our community in the 21st century.”
The ALTAFF/Gale Outstanding Trustee Conference Grant enables a public library Trustee to attend the ALA Annual Conference. The Conference Grant, made possible by an annual gift from Gale Cengage Learning, is administered by ALTAFF. Applications for the 2013 ALTAFF/Gale Outstanding Trustee Conference Grant will be available in September 2012.
