Georgia State University’s Joel Glogowski wins new RUSA BRASS conference travel grant for academic librarians

CHICAGO — Joel Glogowski, economics, public management and policy and business librarian at Georgia State University, is the inaugural recipient of the BRASS Business Expert Press Award for Academic Librarians, a travel grant presented by the Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA).

The BRASS Business Expert Press Award for Academic Librarians recognizes a librarian new to the field of academic business librarianship and provides financial support in the amount of $1,250 for attendance at the ALA Annual Conference, with the ultimate goal of supporting long term professional success of the recipient in the business reference field. The award is generously sponsored by Business Expert Press.

Glogowski was selected as the inaugural recipient for the initiative and interest he demonstrated in business reference as the result of a restructuring at the library, and consequently a change in his professional duties to a business reference liaison role. Faced with these new responsibilities in a subject area that was unfamiliar to him, Glogowski completed RUSA’s Business Reference 101 online course and has sought out additional business reference training opportunities. Additionally, nominators spoke of how strongly he performs in his liaison capacity with students, faculty and staff.

In addition to his librarianship role, Glogowski also serves as risk management and insurance, marketing and hospitality administration liaison in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, University of Georgia, and as Economics and Public Management and Policy liaison in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, University of Georgia. He has worked in both of these capacities since 2009.

Glogowski will be honored at the RUSA Awards Reception, scheduled for 5 – 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 24 in the Sequoia South Ballroom D at the Disney Grand Californian Hotel as a part of RUSA’s events at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
