Best-selling author Picoult and daughter team up for President’s Program at ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO— Best-selling author Jodi Picoult and her daughter Samantha Van Leer will appear as part of the ALA President’s Program & Awards Presentation at ALA Annual Conference from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 24 at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center. The mother-daughter author team will be on tour for the launch of “Between the Lines,” a book they wrote together that will be published in June 2012.

Picoult says of “Between the Lines,” her first YA novel, that “it was Sammy’s idea, and frankly, she’s got a better imagination than I ever did at her age. . . . It’s about what happens when happily ever after . . . isn’t. . . . It was a delight to have the experience of writing it with my own daughter! ”

Picoult’s 18 published novels include the #1 New York Times best-sellers “House Rules, “Handle With Care, “Change of Heart, “Nineteen Minutes” and “My Sister’s Keeper.” Samantha Van Leer is a junior in high school who conceived the idea for “Between the Lines” and pitched it to her mother while she (Picoult) was in the middle of a book tour. In her spare time, she plays softball, does contemporary dance and acts and sings in musicals.
