ALTAFF President’s Program at ALA Annual Conference to feature Dan Rather

PHILADELPHIA –Donna McDonald, president of the Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), will welcome award-winning journalist Dan Rather during the ALTAFF President’s Program at the 2012 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on June 25. The event is part of the Auditorium Speaker Series.

Rather anchored the CBS Evening News for decades and is the author of “Rather Outspoken,” which looks back over his storied and sometimes controversial career. A book signing will follow the program

“Rather Outspoken” (Grand Central Publishing/Hachette, May 2012) is a complete memoir from Rather that reveals his personal thoughts and reflections. Rather’s story told in a straightforward and conversational voice, and covers all the important moments of his journalistic career, including (but not limited to) a frank accounting of his dismissal from CBS, the Abu Ghraib story, the George W. Bush Air National Guard controversy, new insights on the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the origin of “Hurricane Dan,” as well as inside stories about top personalities he has either interviewed or worked with over his distinguished career.

“ALTAFF is honored to welcome Dan Rather, and hear his perspective on covering some of the most important events of the last 30 years,” said McDonald.
