Stalberg and Cronin article wins Swanson Best of LRTS Award
CHICAGO - Erin Stalberg, director of discovery and access at the Mount Holyoke College Library, and Christopher Cronin, director of metadata and cataloging services at the University of Chicago Library, have been awarded the 2012 Edward Swanson Memorial Best of LRTS Award for the article "Assessing the Cost and Value of Bibliographic Control," published in Library Resources & Technical Services (LRTS), volume 55, number 3, 2011, pages 124-137.
The Edward Swanson Memorial Best of LRTS Award is given to the author(s) of the best paper published each year in LRTS, the official journal of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS). The authors each receive $250 and a citation in recognition of their work.
"Assessing the Cost and Value of Bibliographic Control" directly tackles the central question faced by technical services administrators and catalogers today--how can we measure the value of what we do? The seven "operational definitions of value" laid out by the ALCTS Task Force on Cost/Value Assessment of Bibliographic Control and elaborated in the article provide a common vocabulary for establishing the value of bibliographic control, and the article additionally suggests research topics to advance our understanding of how successfully bibliographic control is supporting these values.
The award will be presented on Sunday, June 24, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2012 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats.
ALCTS is a division of the American Library Association.
