Registration closing soon for Business Reference 101 preconference offered by RUSA

CHICAGO — New business librarians and reference generalists won’t want to miss “Business Reference 101: Core Competencies for Business Librarianship,” a 2013 preconference hosted by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA); registration closes June 21.

“Business Reference 101: Core Competencies for Business Librarianship”, which is sponsored by the Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of RUSA, is designed for new business librarians, generalists who have assumed responsibility in business librarianship or librarians who handle business reference-related inquiries in all types of libraries, including academic, public and special libraries. “Business Reference 101” will feature presentations from Rhonda Kleiman, economic development manager, Library System of Lancaster County; Chris LeBeau, research and liaison librarian, management and public administration, UMKC University Libraries; Leticia Camacho, management and accounting librarian, Brigham Young University; and Jared Howland, collection assessment librarian, Brigham Young University. Kleiman and LeBeau will speak about core resources for business reference. Camacho will address the assessment of business resources and Howland will review licensing for business products

The preconference will take place 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday, June 28 at the McCormick Place Convention Center, in conjunction with the 2013 ALA Annual Conference. Advance registration is required; tickets are $219 for RUSA members; $239 for ALA members; $259 for non-members and $189 for ALA Retired and Student members. Local librarians who are not attending the Annual Conference are encouraged to attend; conference registration is not required in order to purchase a ticket for the preconference.   • Investment Success! Building & Managing Your Retirement Portfolio, 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. Monday. Good personal investment education is important for librarians and library staff. In this program, investment professionals will demystify the process and help us understand essential principles and how to apply them to make better decisions to meet our retirement goals.
