Banks, Hudson, and Moorman elected to ALA Executive Board

CHICAGO – Robert (Rob) Banks, Alexia I. Hudson and John A. Moorman have been elected to serve on the American Library Association (ALA) Executive Board. The new board members were elected by the ALA Council in a vote taken at the 2012 ALA Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 20 to 24 in Dallas. Banks, Hudson and Moorman will each serve three-year terms beginning in July 2012 and concluding in June 2015.

Banks is the Chief Operating Office of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library in Topeka, Kan. He has served on Council as the Kansas Chapter Councilor since 2006. Banks has served on numerous ALA and Division committees. He is also a member of the Public Library Association (PLA), the Library Leadership & Management Association (LLAMA), and the Association for Specialized and Cooperative Library Associations (ASCLA), as well as the Kansas Library Association, and the Mountain Plains Library Association where he served as president 2008–2009. Banks holds a BME in Music Education from the University of Kansans and an MLS degree from Emporia State University.

Hudson, Reference & Instruction Librarian at the Pennsylvania State University Abington College in Abington Pa., has served on ALA Council as the Pennsylvania Chapter Councilor since 2010. She has been both a member and a mentor in the Emerging Leader Program, has served on the Member, Training, Orientation, & Leadership Development Committee (TOLD), and is a current member of the Budget and Planning Assembly. She is an active member of the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL). Hudson holds a BA in English Literature & African American Studies from Temple University, and an MLIS degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Moorman is the director of the Williamsburg Regional Library in Williamsburg, Va. He has served on Council as the Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) councilor since 2009. Moorman was previously the Illinois Chapter Councilor 1995–1996. He has served on numerous committees, both at ALA and division levels. He is an active member of the Public Library Association (PLA) and the Library Leadership & Management Association (LLAMA). Moorman holds an AB in Political Science from Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., an MS degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill, and a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign.

ACRL, ASCLA, LLAMA, and PLA are divisions of the ALA.

The ALA Executive Board manages the affairs of the Association. It is composed of the president, president-elect, immediate past president, treasurer, executive director and eight members elected by Council from among the members of that body.
