CHICAGO — The eyes of the publishing world will turn to Chicago at 8 a.m. CT on Feb. 2, 2015, when the American Library Association (ALA) unveils the next classics in children’s and young adult literature.
Thousands of webcast viewers will log on and join more than 1,200 onsite audience members for the announcement of the 2015 ALA Youth Media Awards. The announcements are part of the ALA Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits taking place from Jan. 30 – Feb. 3 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
The ALA, Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) will announce winners of 19 awards, including the Randolph Caldecott and John Newbery Medals, the Coretta Scott King Book Awards and Michael Printz Award.
The ALA Youth Media Awards honor children’s and young adult authors and illustrators, as well as producers of children’s audio and video materials. Selected titles rarely go out of print and stay on library shelves for decades to come.
Known worldwide for the high quality they represent, the awards are selected under a cloak of secrecy by national judging committees composed of librarians and other children’s literature experts. Title selections serve as a guide for parents, educators, librarians and those interested in providing children and teens with the very best reading and viewing materials.
