Last chance to apply for summer reading and teen internship grants from YALSA and Dollar General
CHICAGO — Librarians seeking funding for summer reading programs aimed at teens or to hire teen interns to support summer reading programs can apply for one of two grants distributed by YALSA and funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Applications are due Jan. 1 for:
- The Dollar General Literacy Foundation Summer Reading Program Grant, which will distribute 20 grants of $1,000 each to help fund a teen-focused summer reading program.
- The Dollar General Literacy Foundation Teen Summer Intern Grant, which will distribute 40 grants of $1,000 each to use teen interns to assist in summer reading programs.
YALSA encourages innovative proposals that are inclusive of underserved teen populations, including but not limited to teens with disabilities and teens who speak English as a second language.
Applications for both programs, as well as rules, guidelines and a sample budget form, are available at www.ala.org/yalsa/awards&grants. Individual library branches within a larger system are welcome to apply. Applications are due Jan. 1, 2012. Recipients will be announced in early February.
To apply, applicants must:
- be a personal member of YALSA
- live within 20 miles of a Dollar General store (check and see if your state is eligible at bit.ly/DGLitStore)
- plan to offer a summer reading program for teens in your library
