Go high tech on a tight budget - new workshop
CHICAGO - ALA TechSource announces an exciting new two-part workshop, "How to Go High Tech on a Tight Budget" with Maurice Coleman and Robin Hastings.
Library users expect to get information quickly and communicate with staff easily, yet the underlying technology and staff knowledge required to meet those expectations and provide library services over the Internet can seem daunting. Fortunately, the explosion of Web-based services, social media and open source content platforms means that you don’t have to hire an expensive team of developers and technicians to be current with technology. Maurice Coleman and Robin Hastings will discuss best practices for using technology to keep your library connected and up-to-date. With their expert guidance, you will be able to evaluate and implement low-cost tools for your systems and your patrons.
You will learn how to
- Evaluate and manage open source software solutions
- Use cloud services like Google and Dropbox to get the back-end tech work done for you
- Find and use technology training at little or no cost
- Choose the technology that will work for your library
- Stay current with library technology in efficient ways
- Keep your technology running smoothly and up to date with affordable resources
Registration for this two-part ALA TechSource Workshop is available on the ALA Store. You can purchase registration at both individual and group rates. The workshop takes place in two 90-minute parts at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST/noon MST/11 a.m. PST on Wednesdays, Feb. 1 and 8, 2012.
