American Library Association Scholarship Program joins the national #GivingTuesday movement
CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) Scholarship Program has joined #GivingTuesday, a first-of-its-kind effort that will harness the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday and the kick-off of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world. Taking place Dec. 2, 2014 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.
The American Library Association's Scholarship Program joined the national #GivingTuesday movement in order to promote the idea of spending with a purpose for scholarships. We understand that ALA members have a collective giving nature. We joined the movement to give ALA members an opportunity to play a significant role in this global effort. We hope ALA members will be encouraged to give to the profession by donating to the ALA Scholarship fund.
