"Improving Your Odds: Great Job Hunting Strategies to Land the Job You Really Want"

CHICAGO - Are you planning a job change? Anticipating layoffs at your library? Looking for your first library position? Have you been in the job market for a while? Or, are you trying to help your library users with their job hunts? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should attend this ALA JobLIST Placement Center session entitled "Improving Your Odds: Great Job Hunting Strategies to Land the Job You Really Want" from 3:30 - 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 during the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.

In this session, you will learn practical tips about how to deal with job-hunting in a depressed economy. Topics include common career and job-hunting mistakes, financial realities, renegotiating the social contract with your family, when not to use a resume, why job-hunting is a sales campaign, why networking still works best in an electronic age, the importance of lifelong learning inside and outside of a classroom,helping others and why you need a team.

This session will be held in the JobLIST Placement Center, which will be located in Hall J of the Morial Convention Center.

About the Presenter:

Pat Wagner has been a trainer and consultant for libraries since 1978. She focuses on personnel, management, leadership, marketing, strategic planning and career issues. She was a college career counselor/instructor, working with adults returning to school and changing careers. In addition, Pat has worked for federal and corporate agencies and trade unions, including Rocky Flats, the Resolution Trust Corporation, the Federal Women's Program, Federally Employed Women, ATT and most of the federal agencies with offices in Colorado and Alaska, helping longtime employees who were being laid off to job-hunt.
