YALSA sponsors Delatte, Marker as 2011 Emerging Leaders

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) chose two members for the 2011 ALA Emerging Leaders program: Monique Delatte, acquisitions librarian at Fullerton College and adjunct librarian at Rio Hondo College library, both in California, and Samantha Marker, young adult librarian at Mount Laurel (N.J.) Library. Each will receive funding from YALSA to attend the 2011 ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference.

“Being selected to participate in the 2011 cohort of the Emerging Leaders program is a great honor,” Delatte said. “I am tremendously excited to collaborate on a project that will benefit YALSA members and be presented at the American Library Association Annual Conference, 2011, in New Orleans. The location of this conference is incredibly meaningful to me, as I was born in New Orleans and the 2006 conference was the first I attended.”
“My hope is that as an ALA Emerging Leader, I will find my niche in ALA so that I can participate more fully in my professional organization,” Marker said. “I'm also thrilled to have the opportunity to meet colleagues from across the country. It means so much to have YALSA’s support in doing so.”
The Emerging Leaders program enables newer librarians from across the country to participate in workgroups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA's structure and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Emerging Leaders receive up to $1,000 each to participate in the Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference and each participant is expected to provide years of service to ALA or one of its units. More than 100 librarians will get on the fast track to leadership in ALA and the profession in the 2011 program.
For more than 50 years, YALSA has been the world leader in selecting books, videos and audiobooks for teens.
