Sevigny-Killen accepts 2010 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship
CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) has chosen Brenda Sevigny-Killen of Pittston, Maine, to receive the 2010 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship.
The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to a library support staff worker who is pursuing a master’s degree in library and information science.
A self-described “driven, optimistic, non-traditional baccalaureate student,” Sevigny-Killen has overcome many personal challenges to pursue a career in librarianship. As a support staff worker who has served in public and academic libraries, Sevigny-Killen finds that library work “satisfies all my requirements for the perfect profession: a love of teaching and helping people; an atmosphere of growth and change; and a love and appreciation for the beauty of the written (and digitized) word. It is all there, every day, in the library.”
Sevigny-Killen will be attending the San Jose University School of Library and Information Science.
