Registration for reference, genealogy and ILL workshops closes June 20

CHICAGO—Registration closes Sunday, June 20 for the three preconferences that the Reference and User Services Association will be holding in conjunction with the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.

Preconferences are half or full-day intensive workshops offering valuable information and skills to librarians who work in, or are interested in expanding their resume to include important topics such as genealogy, interlibrary loan and reference. These events are open to all interested participants—you do not need to be registered for the Annual Conference in order to purchase a ticket. Behind the Genealogy Reference Desk: Our Capital’s Hidden Genealogy Gems

Friday, June 25, 8:30am-5pm

Held at the Daughters of the American Revolution Library, 1776 D. Street NW, Washington, D.C.

A valuable professional development opportunity for both new reference librarians, who will benefit from the fundamental tools presented at this event, as well as experienced genealogy librarians looking for a refresher course. Speakers include experienced research staff from both the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Daughters of the American Revolution Library. Sponsored by ProQuest. Interlibrary Loan Statistics: What We Gather, How We Use Them, and Who We Provide Them To

Friday, June 25, 8:30am-12pm

Held at the Grand Hyatt Washington, 1000 H Street NW in the Independence H/I Room

Resource sharing practitioners will learn how to sort through the myriad of ILL statistics available from a variety of sources, and how to use this data to provide quality service—a valuable event for those involved with interlibrary loan, document delivery and remote circulation, as well as consortia and network members. Registration starts at $155 for RUSA members and $170 for ALA members.



Reference Evolution: Envisioning the Future, Remembering the Past

Friday, June 25, 9am-5pm

Held at the Renaissance Washington, 999 9th Street NW, in the Grand Ballroom Central

An opportunity to participate in a lively discussion of the current state of the profession, to see beyond the hype and identify where things are actually headed. Presenters will acknowledge traditional reference tools and skills that remain relevant, while projecting how newer technologies will better serve patrons.
