Panelists Bios

Lisa Bunker is the Social Media Librarian for Pima County Public Library. She founded PCPL’s Catalyst Cafe and the ALA’s Entrepreneurship and Maker Services Member Interest Group. While most of her projects are related to outreach and library advocacy, her latest project is building an internal team that will apply design thinking and other lean methodologies to better support staff innovative initiatives. She was chosen as a Library Journal Mover and Shaker in 2012.

Jason Griffey is the founder and principal at Evenly Distributed (a technology consulting and creation firm for non-profits); the creator and director of The LibraryBox Project; one of eight winners of the Knight Foundation News Challenge for Libraries for his Measure the Future project; and a  Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Most recently he has written a chapter in The Top Technologies Every Librarian Needs to Know: A LITA Guide. His previous book, Mobile Technology and Libraries, is a part of the award-winning Tech Set series. Named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker in 2009, Griffey has written and spoken internationally on topics such as the future of technology and libraries, personal electronics in the library, privacy, copyright, and intellectual property.

Jim Hahn is Orientation Services and Environments Librarian and Associate Professor at the University of Illinois Undergraduate Library. His research into technology-enhanced learning investigates the development of mobile software applications within library settings and provides unique insights into new students’ expectations and needs. He currently leads the Technology Prototyping Service at the University of Illinois.

Jamie Hollier is the Co-Owner and Co-CEO of Anneal, a company that provides consulting in strategic foresight and planning, project management, and product ownership for technology initiatives. She is also a Co-Owner of Commerce Kitchen, a custom software development studio that has been awarded Small Company of the Year, Best Places to Work, and Colorado Company to Watch. She has been honored as a White House “Champion of Change” and currently serves as a board member for DPLA. Her clients come from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors including current work with the Chicago Public Library and PLA.

Alex Lent is Director of the Millis Public Library, where one of his goals is to make the library as easy to use as possible. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Minuteman Library Network, on the Executive Board of the New England Library Association, and as a referee for multiple library science journals. Alex previously taught in the School of Information Studies at McGill University, and currently writes about public libraries for LibFocus. Find him online at alexlent.org.

Thomas Padilla is Digital Scholarship Librarian at Michigan State University Libraries. He publishes, presents, and teaches widely on Humanities data, data curation, and data information literacy. Recent national and international presentation and teaching venues include but are not limited to: the annual meeting of the American Historical Association, the Humanities Intensive Learning and Teaching Institute, and Digital Humanities 2015. Thomas serves as an Editor for DHCommons Journal and dh + lib Data Praxis. Thomas also currently serves as co-convener of the Association of College and Research Libraries Digital Humanities Interest Group.

Ken Varnum is the Senior Program Manager for Discovery, Delivery, and Learning Analytics at the University of Michigan Library. In this role, Ken is responsible for the library's information discovery and delivery interfaces, and the library's evolving and emerging learning analytics infrastructure. Ken speaks and writes about analytics, discovery, and content management. In addition to numerous articles and chapters, he has written or edited four books, including the 2014 LITA Guide "The Top Technologies every Librarian Needs to Know" and the forthcoming "Exploring Discovery: The Front Door to a Library’s Licensed and Digitized Content", to be published by ALA Editions in April.
